The founders of the museum are the descendants of Jevrem Grujic, Lazar Šećerović and Aleksandar Conić. In order to introduce the public to the history of modern Serbian culture during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, the museum has created a compound authentic ambience of the city villa from the late 19th century and a rich art collection, owned by family, that has been collected more than two centuries.
The museum is located in the ground floor of the house, containing four lounges which serve as an exhibition space and, also, couple of additional, auxiliary facilities. The setting is designed in that way that in the same room, there are two art items which are mutually complemented. The permanent exhibition is set up to incorporate the temporary one, so all of the art items, counting more than 500, are equally presented to the visitors.
